Garden City 1

This post was originally intended to congratulate the organizers of the Garden City Relief Fundraiser at Copley Square — so many wonderful vendors selling beautiful things — and to thank the very talented creators for their generosity to this cause. For me it was lots (and lots) of guilt-free shopping, knowing that every linden I spent was going to the New Zealand Red Cross to help those affected by the recent earthquake in Chistchurch. I’ve fallen short though, in that I’ve pictured so few of the fabulous things I purchased; I hope to remedy this in future posts. (To see more items, check out this page.) Is it springtime yet? (Luna’s Color Challenge – Week 16: Lime)

Around this time of year, I develop a serious craving for some springtime; even if the weather warms up a bit, it seems that there’s no end to the gray and bluster of February. Fortunately, Luna Jubilee brought out electric lime, just in time! These Coco pants were about an electric a lime as I’d ever wear; what wonderful textures and shine! I paired them with a sweet Coco cardigan and wedge sneakers to make my gardening a bit more comfortable than it would have been in heels! And though I had trouble deciding which of the new hairstyles from Truth to wear with this outfit I knew I wouldn’t go wrong with either; this one is Whitney.

Riviera

Sometimes you just need to get away from it all; leave the crowds and the noise and the madness behind. Here I’m imagining I’m at my private beach on the Riviera, left alone with my thoughts, the renewing sunshine, and the eternal sound of the waves. Spending a little time thinking things through so as to let go of the past, dismiss any regrets, and resolve to focus on the future and all the wonderful things it’ll bring.

Hot date

What do you wear for a hot date with someone special, when you want to look sexy (but not slutty), sophisticated (but not off-putting), and fun (but not dorky)? This new release from Kazou is a perfect choice. With one bared shoulder, and a cascade of ruffles on either side, it exposes a wonderful length of leg. Jori Watler’s Kaleidos jewelry and n-Core’s Chic slides add both sex-appeal and glamor to a lovely and versatile look.

Orange? Historical attire? I don’t often wear either, but when I saw that Evangeline Miles had released this special edition gown I had to have it. When I put it on I could almost *feel* those sumptuous textures against my skin, and simply didn’t want to take it off. So I headed to Rustica, Maxwell Graf’s amazing sim, where I explored the castle and neighboring village. Lost in time. Forgetting now. Yearning for my knight in shining armor.

The Best of Possible Worlds

All is for the best, in this, the best of possible worlds.

Okay, so Voltaire was satirizing an excess of optimism when he wrote that line for Pangloss, but even when I’m not wearing my rose-colored glasses, I can see that certain painful experiences *are* for the best. Any time someone shows their true self — even if it hurts you when they do — it really is a gift; you then have more information to use in deciding how to proceed, and what your future relationship with this person will be. Other times, the ‘showing of true colors’ is 100% positive — someone you’ve never been that close to comes through when you least expect it, and you realize that you have a new friend. And in this strange new world of ours, it’s good to have friends.

Fearless

No, I certainly don’t claim to be fearless. But I cultivate an attitude of fearlessness, or more aptly, of bravery — an ‘I’m not gonna let you get me down’ attitude, even when the miasma of drama pollutes the air. And it works for me. Anyone who’s been in this world long enough to develop a social circle has at least been an observer of what we call ‘drama’ if not a participant, a victim, or a survivor. I’m a survivor. And to any of you being currently victimized by the drama-mongers, I will say this: you have a mute button, so use it. Remove the malevolent or disturbed individual from your friend list, mute them and walk away. It’s not always easy to do, but once you have, it’s wonderful. It’s like they don’t even exist. And, if you think of them from time to time, just pity them because they’re stuck with themselves. Pity them, and then let it go.

Après-ski

While winter is still here, it makes sense to take advantage of it. So though I’m already thinking of turning my sim from snow to green, I decided one last expedition to the slopes was in order. One of the marvelous things about SL is that you *can* spend an afternoon skiing, then replace your ski boots with prestige boots and indulge in après-ski activities with perfect makeup, artfully tousled hair, and not a single aching muscle. Ah, if only that were true in RL where runny noses, aching thighs and snow-damp hair are much more likely. (Okay, given the choice I’d take the slopes of New Mexico over those of SL any day, but since I’m not *there* I may as well enjoy being *here*!)

STYLE NOTES: I’m trying out Linda 3, a brand new skin from PXL Creations. I saw the skin being modeled by someone I’ve long admired and she looked so beautiful I simply had get the demo. Being new to PXL, I was thrilled to discover that, yes, light brows are included in every package (along with darker ones, of course)! Lots of lovely lips are available, as are a number of great tattoo eyeshadows to buy separately. (Guess that means I’ll be heading back there often!)
