Passion (52 Weeks of Color Challenge — Ruby)

Do you read a lot of SL profiles? I didn’t when I first came to SL, but the longer I’ve been here, the more I’m inclined to check out someone’s profile — whether it’s to look at a particularly stylish avatar’s picks, or to just to find out who someone is. I attended an event this evening and found myself doing a great deal of profile reading and was both impressed and astonished by the openness with which many describe their SL personae. Mine is pretty boring; I figured I reveal way more of myself here than I ever could cram into a few profile pages so I just provide a link and say, hey, if you want to know about me, go read my blog. And even here, I’m somewhat circumspect. Not so, many of the folks I checked out.  (In fact, sometimes you risk learning waaaaayyyy more about someone than you ever wanted to and have to slam that profile shut before it hurts your eyes or your mind.)  But what I saw lot of was passion.  People are passionate about their relationships, their occupations, their hobbies, and even their pixel pets.  For people who spend lots and lots of time typing on a keyboard and staring at a screen, we are quite a passionate bunch.  And despite the drama and the craziness that passion might generate, well, I think on the whole it’s a wonderful thing.  It’s passion that makes the colors so rich here.  It’s passion that makes the air shimmer so brightly here.  It’s passion that keeps those SL stars and that glorious SL sun forever shining in a beautiful blue SL sky.

This week’s color for Luna Jubilee’s 52 Weeks of Color Challenge is ruby. That deep rich red that is the color of passion.  I thought I’d wear a gorgeous gown, or perhaps cover myself in dozens and dozens of ruby-red roses for this week’s picture, but somehow this sweet simple look expressed it best for me today.

What I was wearing…

I don’t know if this happens to everyone, or just women, or just me, but certain outfits and/or items of clothing remain inextricably linked to memories of significant events. For example, there’s a particular black lacy item in my lingerie drawer that I no longer wear, and yet am unable to discard. I wore it one special day, and every time I see it, I have to catch my breath as memories of that day come flooding back. I remember the other things I wore that day too. And how I almost didn’t want to wash them because they’d picked up his scent: subtle cologne, and sea air and something indefinably him.

Today was significant too, though for other reasons. And this is what I was wearing today.

I dreamed I was a country girl

This SL weekend, I dreamed I was a country girl.  Anyone who knows me knows I’m a city girl down to my toes — which are generally clad in sexy high-heeled shoes.  But it is fun to try out a different lifestyle.  Now, if I was a real country girl, I might have to get up before dawn to feed animals and do whatever other chores farms require.  In sunny SL, I can do those things at any time, and never, ever have to take off my heels!  Well, unless I want to.  *winks*

Isn’t it wonderful when new releases are a perfect fit for the style you want to achieve?  I really lucked out this weekend; Truth’s new Cecilia hairstyle works wonderfully for the country girl look.  And since I won’t give up my heels for anyone, I was thrilled to discover that N-Core’s new Soleil shoe comes in several shades of denim — along with a full array of non-denim colors — so I could wear them with my jeans!  My close-up shows them at their simplest.  But you can use the included hud to change various parts of the shoe and apply any of a variety of different nail polishes.  Being a country girl, well, I didn’t have time to get a pedicure.

Orange is the color of fire

They say that when the going gets tough, the tough get going. I’ll just add that when the flames are licking at her heels, a girl’s gotta run, run, run away.

I put together this look for Luna Jubilee’s color challenge. This week’s color? Neon carrot. Orange being one of my least favorite colors, well, all I can say is that putting together this outfit was sheer hell. *winks*

Sense 2 — New from N-Core

Another quick Shoe Fair post, because I simply had to display these lovely new shoes from N-core!  The reptile ones, which I’m wearing here, are a Shoe Fair exclusive; 100% of the sales of this item will be donated to Soles4Soles, so if you were on the fence about spending your hard-earned lindens on another pair of shoes, know that you will be doing so in a good cause.  These lovely little things come with a hud for adjusting skin color, and choosing your nail polish (gloss or no-gloss) as well as allowing you to select from a variety of colors for sole, buckle, logo, etc.  With all of these new shoes, I really have no excuse not to go dancing!   (Close-up below the credits.)

Walk a mile in these shoes!

Shoe Fair2

My pixel toes are no doubt virtually tired after all the traipsing around I did at Shoe Fair on Saturday, but there were so many lovely things to see (and buy) that I couldn’t stop until I’d made the complete circuit. I tried to be judicious about my purchases and limit my buying to Shoe Fair exclusives (with a portion of the proceeds going to Soles4Souls), and/or vendors that were new to me. But of course, that resolution didn’t last very long! (My wallet may be in more pain than my feet, but certainly for a good cause.) Today’s outfit is composed exclusively of things I bought at Shoe Fair (well, except for my undies!). I’ve seen the DCNY crochet dress on the feeds (and wanted it) but this color is a shoe fair exclusive and a perfect match for my new Pixel Mode shoes. The Fae Wedge is scrumptious, and it was only the miles and miles of Shoe Fair left to cover that kept me from buying the entire fatpack. (Tya, you know I’ll be back for more!) I had to take a close-up to show you how absolutely fabulously delicious they are!

This year, Shoe Fair leased some booths to non-shoe vendors, just in case anyone got bored by shoe shop after shoe shop after shoe shop. (I know, who could possibly ever be bored by shoes?!?) I’d never before seen the lovely jewelry made by Liliana Barrs of Undefined Lilies, but now that I have — isn’t this necklace lovely? — I’ll definitely be making regular trips to the shop!

Lies in the dark

I’m sick to death of hearing things from
uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics.
Just give me some truth…

~ John Lennon

I heard a particularly egregious, um, ‘story’ today, and it occurred to me to wonder whether people are more apt to lie in SL than in RL  First of all, you can’t use your usual lie-detectors — that is, your senses — to discern a lie; an avatar doesn’t display the usual ‘tells’ that a human might.  And because so much conversation takes place in IM, it’s quite possible for someone to tell one person one thing and at the same time be telling someone else something completely different.  Yep, I’ve seen it happen.  Further, there’s not a whole lot of accountability.  In RL, habitual liars generally get caught sooner or later and have to pay a price.  In-world, not so much; there are no credit checks or required references. Once found out, the liar can skip out on the old avatar and create a brand new self.  A little research confirms my thesis: that people do lie more online than in RL.

So, that last little bit of nasty gossip you heard?  While it could be tempting to spread it to your ten nearest and dearest friends, you might want to consider the possibility that it’s not true.  Take a few hours off from SL, watch Rashomon on Netflix, and allow yourself to feel a little doubt.  And a little compassion. After all, the person who spreads the lie is almost bad as the liar who told it in the first place.

Oh, Coco!

It’s Friday night, and I’m on my way to a party!  At a loss for what to wear, I stopped by Coco — and much to my surprise, there were new releases!  (Okay, I’m not sure quite how new these releases are because I’m in too many very verbose groups and therefore my IMs do get capped on a daily basis…but they are very new to me.) And just the perfect thing to wear to a weekend ‘do’!

Layla — New from Glam Affair

I spent some time — and a lot of lindens — at Skin & Shape Expo 2011 yesterday.  My inventory is filled with demos that I haven’t had a chance to sort through yet, but Glam Affair‘s new Layla skin looked so lovely I had to try her on right away. Once I did, well, I just had to have the fatpack!  Layla comes in a variety of different skin tones (I always wear Natural), and includes both light and dark brows and hairbase or no-hairbase option. You also get four different eyebrow shapes, pubic options and a lash alpha.  Best of all, the fatpack includes a ‘clean’ version, and 14 different makeups so your look is appropriate whether you’re playing beach volleyball, or attending a formal ball. And if that weren’t enough, there are 50 additional Layla lipsticks available for purchase. The skin is beautifully shaded and highlighted. And, look at that mouth!!! (I think it’s just asking to be kissed.)

Also new (to me) are the Fashism eyes I’m wearing.  I asked for recommendations from Plurk friends so now have tons of new eyes to try on.  Thanks for all those recommendations, Plurkies!
