Cinderella, thinking

Something about this melon pink gown that I put on for Luna Jubilee’s 52 Weeks of Color Challenge made me think of Cinderella; I guess it’s the softness and prettiness and princess-pink-ness of it. In the story, I don’t think she had a lot of time to think about what the future would hold; she was swept away by the magic of it all and ran to greet everything it might bring. And we all know how that story ended.

Do you think, if she grabbed a moment to reflect before that fateful ball, that the words ‘happily ever after’ would have come to mind? I don’t think so. I think she was just living for the moment. She would have thought, do I go for it? She would have thought, yes, I’m going to go for it.

Relax

In the middle of a heatwave, there came a day of soft storms and cool winds and all good things. A perfect opportunity to let go of stress and inessential obligations and just chill out. As hot as it gets — and god it has been hot — it’s always nice to remember that the cool will return. Whether it’s the heat or the cold or anything else in life that’s causing stress, learn from the trees; the strongest ones bend, and that way they don’t break.

Celadon / 52 Weeks of Color Challenge

The word ‘celadon’ — this week’s color for the challenge — makes me think of summer afternoons, escaping the heat by going to the museum, looking at collections of ancient Asian ceramics. So cool, that pale shade of green, light and yet filled with mystery; clear, yet hiding ancient secrets.

Truth District Gifties

I don’t know about you, but I had an amazing and overwhelming weekend. Food, friends, and fireworks — who could ask for more, right? While I wasn’t thrilled to have to get back to work today there was something calming about being able to focus my mind on the tasks at hand and actually complete everything on today’s to-do list. When I got done with work, though, it was time to rush home and unpack some of the lovely things I acquired during the weekend’s shopping expeditions. Here I’m wearing just a few of the things I picked up at the new Truth District shopping sim. The sim itself was amazing; wonderfully laid out, beautifully built and landscaped, and, oh my, the stores! Many of my favorite creators have a presence here but I was even able to discover some new designers. And, despite the large number of vendors, there isn’t a single one who isn’t selling top quality merchandise. Because of the grand opening, many stores are offering freebies, including the hair, skin, top, and pants that I’m wearing above.

A touch of blue

This week’s color for the challenge is electric blue, which looked a lot like aqua to me. One of my favorite colors, aqua suggests the opposite of ‘electric’ to me. Aqua is calm and deep, soothing and sensual. It’s a happy color, but tinged with sadness and thus perfect for a day of reflection before the July 4th festivities begin. Tomorrow I’ll fly my stars and stripes and celebrate, but for today, I’m allowing myself to feel just a little blue.

Feeling beautiful

We fashion bloggers talk a lot about beautiful things: beautiful dresses, beautiful hairstyles, beautiful scenery, beautiful jewelry. And I guess that most of us try to find — and blog — the most beautiful items we can. But no matter what you wear, or what you blog, it really is true that it’s what’s inside that counts. I was wearing jeans earlier, just jeans and plain white tank. Slipped into this lovely dress, and hair, and makeup. But even before my wardrobe change, I was feeling beautiful on the inside. And glowing.

Mauve (52 Weeks of Color Challenge)

Mauve is this week’s challenge color and I was surprised to discover I had almost nothing mauve in my inventory. It’s a lovely color but to me it suggests a picture from an earlier era: ladies in high-collared lace blouses reclining on fainting couches and smelling like lavender. I aimed for a little bit of an update on that. This very sexy top from aDiva Couture helped me step out of the frame!

Before the party

Do you ever have that moment when, as you’re getting ready to head to a party you suddenly feel shy and awkward? It happens to me sometimes, particularly if I know I won’t know a lot of people there. As a child I was painfully shy. The thought of meeting strangers paralyzed me. Upon arriving anywhere new, I’d hide behind my mother and try and keep her from leaving, or look for a corner where I could disappear. But when my Mom would come to pick me up, I’d be happily playing with the other kids, or even leading them in my favorite games of make-believe. As an adult, I’ve mostly overcome it; people who know me can’t believe I was ever shy. But to this day, I have to reassure the little girl inside of me that she doesn’t need to look for a corner in which to hide, that it’s going to be fun, and people are going to be warm and welcoming. And it almost always is. And they almost always are.
