Cinderella, thinking

Something about this melon pink gown that I put on for Luna Jubilee’s 52 Weeks of Color Challenge made me think of Cinderella; I guess it’s the softness and prettiness and princess-pink-ness of it. In the story, I don’t think she had a lot of time to think about what the future would hold; she was swept away by the magic of it all and ran to greet everything it might bring. And we all know how that story ended.

Do you think, if she grabbed a moment to reflect before that fateful ball, that the words ‘happily ever after’ would have come to mind? I don’t think so. I think she was just living for the moment. She would have thought, do I go for it? She would have thought, yes, I’m going to go for it.

Relax

In the middle of a heatwave, there came a day of soft storms and cool winds and all good things. A perfect opportunity to let go of stress and inessential obligations and just chill out. As hot as it gets — and god it has been hot — it’s always nice to remember that the cool will return. Whether it’s the heat or the cold or anything else in life that’s causing stress, learn from the trees; the strongest ones bend, and that way they don’t break.

Patriarch

Another week, another color for Luna Jubilee’s 52 Weeks of Color Challenge. This week’s color is named ‘patriarch,’ which is a new one for me. I know the word; just, have never heard it applied to a color. I suppose the name derives from the royal purple, the purple of kings and popes and emperors. The color is so rich and deep with its combination of heat and chill, that only a gown would do.

Down by the water

It was dusk…or maybe it was dawn…I don’t really remember. Took a walk down by the water, just to think, and breathe. So beautiful there, with the soft light drifting through the trees. I could almost smell the grass and hear the gentle lap of water from our little lake on a breezy day in the summertime.  For a moment, it felt like recaptured perfection.

When life gives you lemons…

Luna Jubilee’s challenge color for this coming week is lemon. Beautiful color, yes. But one I never wear. I wrote about that a while ago when yellow was the color of the week. I did a subtle yellow then and am doing the same now.  For today I’ll just say, when life gives you lemons — as it sometimes does — sit down with good friends and have a few shots of tequila. It’ll all look better in the morning!

Sunshine Girl

I’ve always had slightly mixed feelings about summer. So much to love about it: the long days, the healing power of sunshine, and those wonderful three-day weekends. But summer in the city can be brutal — heat rising from the asphalt, standing on crowded subway platforms surrounded by sweaty strangers, and arriving at work nowhere near as fresh as when you left home. Then again, how great it is to wear the lightest of clothing and look forward to vacationing at the beach? I think of taking that first breath of sea air, kicking off my flip-flops and running down to the water’s edge. That moment is always magical for me. I breathe in the sea and the sky and all of a sudden I’m at peace. All troubles are forgotten. I’m pulled in and soothed and elated by the rhythms of the ocean.

Celadon / 52 Weeks of Color Challenge

The word ‘celadon’ — this week’s color for the challenge — makes me think of summer afternoons, escaping the heat by going to the museum, looking at collections of ancient Asian ceramics. So cool, that pale shade of green, light and yet filled with mystery; clear, yet hiding ancient secrets.

Truth District Gifties

I don’t know about you, but I had an amazing and overwhelming weekend. Food, friends, and fireworks — who could ask for more, right? While I wasn’t thrilled to have to get back to work today there was something calming about being able to focus my mind on the tasks at hand and actually complete everything on today’s to-do list. When I got done with work, though, it was time to rush home and unpack some of the lovely things I acquired during the weekend’s shopping expeditions. Here I’m wearing just a few of the things I picked up at the new Truth District shopping sim. The sim itself was amazing; wonderfully laid out, beautifully built and landscaped, and, oh my, the stores! Many of my favorite creators have a presence here but I was even able to discover some new designers. And, despite the large number of vendors, there isn’t a single one who isn’t selling top quality merchandise. Because of the grand opening, many stores are offering freebies, including the hair, skin, top, and pants that I’m wearing above.

4th of July / Lelutka at Hair Fair

Are you ready for fireworks? I certainly am! I hope our non-US friends and colleagues will permit us an excess of patriotism on this special day, and maybe even enjoy some hot dogs, cold beer, and red, white and blue with us while we watch the skies filling with color and light, and celebrate our nation’s birth.

For my post today I’m showcasing some of the wonderful Lelutka hairstyles I picked up at Hair Fair. (Confession: Yes, I got every single one — and am wearing four of the five.) They come with hairbases (not worn here) to soften the line between hair and forehead. I love them all and am still trying to decide which one to wear tonight.
