Ice

The opposite of love isn’t hate. It’s indifference. I was thinking yesterday about how love can change. Some of my SL friends are or have been trapped in relationships full of volatility, infidelity and game playing. What I realized is that when their partner treats them badly it confirms something that they secretly believe to be true: that they are, in fact, fundamentally unloveable. One might ask, why be with someone who treats you badly? I suppose they stay because they crave a return to the times when he treated them well; in those moments they were able to believe that they were lovable, that someone saw them in their entirety and still chose to love them. They need to feel that way, and *he* made them feel that way, albeit briefly. At some point, the relationship cracks wide open. One or the other leaves, angry words are exchanged, and love turns to hate. But as long as there’s hate, a relationship still exists. (To my friend I say, give it time, give it time. You will heal.)

As for me, I’ve been fortunate; I’m on good terms with almost all of my exes. And I’ll always feel love for them. The random bad guy who potentially managed to slip by my radar once upon a time? For him, I feel nothing. Indifference. Ice.

As ever, I fly towards the sunshine of a warm, welcoming heart.

My Black Stallion

It seems like everyone I meet these days is going a bit animal crazy. Between breedable cats, dogs, horses, fish and what-have-you, all of SL is in a breeding frenzy. Or maybe it’s just another sign of impending spring: the hint of warmer weather, and the wearing of lighter clothing are unleashing our animal selves. Here I’m posing with my big old stallion (or as I call him, Ratbatsturd) totally out of vanity; I like the way his dark coat sets off my clothes and coloring. But I’d better get out of the way fast; his fervor is up, he’s eyeing all the lovely fillies, and I don’t want to get trampled (again).

Lost in a cold desert (52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Ecru)

Since I started blogging and taking photographs I’ve spent a fair amount of in-world time alone. It’s so beautiful here: the colors, the flowers, the hillsides, and of course the sea and the sky. But if you don’t get out and socialize at all, it can begin to seem like a cold and lonely place. Come to think of it, real life is like that too. So, while the introverts among us may enjoy our moments of solitude, it’s important not to get totally lost in them, as I am in this cold, lonely desert.

The jacket and the (new Lelutka) hair

Just a quick post ’cause I promised you all a closer look at the Peqe jacket. Yes, I know it’s been out for a bit, but that doesn’t stop it from being absolutely fabulous! Just as I was getting everything together to take the picture, I got a notice about the new hair from Lelutka. Well, let me tell you, it is gorgeous! And, as a natural blonde, I love the darkness of the roots! My hair’s always at least 3 shades lighter at the tips than at the roots because so much of that blondness comes from ambient sun. I bought every new style at Lelutka, and, much to my surprise, the one I’m displaying first is ‘Sue’ — a retro 70’s Farrah Fawcett ‘do with bangs and layers and pieces sweeping off the face. If you’d described it to me, I’d have said, no way! I’ll never wear that! But it is so soft and sweet and beautiful that I simply couldn’t resist.

And maybe I should have spent a little more time working on my lines. But you know, it’s not my fault if the makeup artist makes me look bad, and it’s not my fault that the writer has absolutely no understanding of women, and finally, you know, you should be grateful that I even deigned to drag my weary butt out of bed and into the limo before dawn to get to the soundstage. I mean, don’t you know what a big star I am???

So, no, Mr. DeMille, I am NOT ready for my closeup.

This post was originally intended to congratulate the organizers of the Garden City Relief Fundraiser at Copley Square — so many wonderful vendors selling beautiful things — and to thank the very talented creators for their generosity to this cause. For me it was lots (and lots) of guilt-free shopping, knowing that every linden I spent was going to the New Zealand Red Cross to help those affected by the recent earthquake in Chistchurch. Fearless

No, I certainly don’t claim to be fearless. But I cultivate an attitude of fearlessness, or more aptly, of bravery — an ‘I’m not gonna let you get me down’ attitude, even when the miasma of drama pollutes the air. And it works for me. Anyone who’s been in this world long enough to develop a social circle has at least been an observer of what we call ‘drama’ if not a participant, a victim, or a survivor. I’m a survivor. And to any of you being currently victimized by the drama-mongers, I will say this: you have a mute button, so use it. Remove the malevolent or disturbed individual from your friend list, mute them and walk away. It’s not always easy to do, but once you have, it’s wonderful. It’s like they don’t even exist. And, if you think of them from time to time, just pity them because they’re stuck with themselves. Pity them, and then let it go.
