Blinded by your smile

I was thinking about facial expressions — or rather, the lack thereof — here in SL. Yes, there are emoters and ‘gestures’ and HUDs that will make an avatar smile, but as a rule they’re pretty abhorrent. So, we ‘lol’ and ‘rofl’ and *smile*. Seems like a poor substitute for an actual expression, but somehow it works. There are certain avatars I remember who’ve probably never cracked a smile in-world. But, in IM, they’ve smiled a lot. And that’s what I’ll remember. Always.

Think of someone you care for in SL, and imagine their face. Does it have the expressionless avatar look we all walk around with? Or is it smiling at at you? If it isn’t, well, I am. *smiles*

Gorgeous – I love it – I’m going to get it NOW. And I’ll think of you smiling as I do…

Seriously – my fav photos are ones where I’ve caught an “expression” on an avatar – due to the angle, a blink, the judicious use of quality emoters – or the talented photographers that portray emotion through the overall pose of the avatars and lighting.

and, i’ll aspire to doing that…catching an expression — though so far I think it’s way beyond my skill level. Which is not a bad thing; just means there’s something (else) to aim for.
